Advantage Trading Forex

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

The forex market has several advantages, which make it an
ideal trading market for many people who do or do not have
any knowledge of other markets. It takes only a short
tutorial to have you playing like a pro. In addition, the
forex market is fast. The prices can go up and down several
times a day, and there is no end to the combinations that
you can get. In addition, in time, with the proper
training, you can become a professional Forex trader and
even help other people come into the exciting world of
Forex. What is best of all is that the Forex trading market
is today the biggest market in the world, and there is no
end to the number of trades and transactions that you can
make. Advantage of the Online Forex Spot Transactions

The Forex spot market has a huge advantage because after
you see a price of a certain currency on your computer
screen, you can immediately buy or sell that currency and
get the current price for your trade. This gives you a spot
on connection to the online Forex market, and you are sure
that you are not missing anything, because it’s real time.

The fact that the online Forex spot market is concurrent,
allows for the many trades to take place each day, and
eventually is one of the reasons why the online Forex
market is a very quick option to make money. Unlike the
regular stock market, the Forex market is much more
dynamic, so you don’t have to sit and wait for changes in
your stock. You can view your currency on the spot, and if
you don’t like it from one minute to the next, you can go
and sell it immediately and not suffer any unnecessary
losses.

Accordingly, once you have noticed that the currency you
invested in has risen enough, and is saturated, you can
decide to sell it and reap the profits. The Forex spot
market is seen in it’s real time glory through the charts
offered by technical analysis, so you can view the dynamics
by yourself.

Trend lines

The basic trend line is one of the simplest of the
technical tools employed by the chartist, but by any
standard the most powerful and valuable tool in trading.
The trend line is constructed when there are three higher
or lower points to be connected. This forms a channel which
the price action can be monitored. As discussed, one of the
obvious presumptions derived from chart studies is that
prices have a prevailing tendency to move in a particular
direction. This trend frequently assumes a definition
pattern which evolves along a straight line. This ability
of prices to adhere extremely close to an imaginary
straight line is one of the most extraordinary
characteristics of chart movements.

Drawing a Trend line

The correct drawing of trend lines is an art like every
other aspect of charting and some experimenting with
different lines is usually necessary to find the right one.
Sometimes a trend line which appears to be correct may have
to be redrawn. With practice, the art of drawing trend
lines becomes easier, but initially there are some useful
guidelines in the search for the correct one. There must be
evidence of a trend. This means that, for an up trend line
to be drawn there must be at least two reaction lows with
the second low higher than the first. Once two ascending
lows have been identified, a straight line is drawn
connecting the lows and projected up and to the right. Once
the third point has been confirmed and the trend proceeds
in its original direction, the trend line becomes very
useful in a variety of ways. One of the basic concepts of
technical analysis is that a trend in motion will tend to
stay in motion. Therefore, once a trend assumes a
particular slope or a rate of speed, as identified by the
trend line, then it usually maintains the same slope. The
trend line then helps not only to determine the extremities
of the corrective phases but also importantly, when that
trend is changing. Very often the breaking of the trend
line is one of the best early warnings of a change in
trend.

The Significance of the Trend line

It is very important to discuss how to determine the
significance of a trend line. In every market and on every
chart you see there are many trends in motions, short term,
mid term, long terms, hourly and so on. However, not all
these trends will be significantly strong. If they are not,
a trader runs the risk of entering or exiting the market at
the wrong time. The more significant a trend line, the more
confidence it inspires and the more important its
penetration. There are two factors that determine the
significance of a trend line. Firstly, the length of time
it has been intact, and secondly how many times it has been
tested. A trend line that the market has tested 8 times for
example, but keeps pushing the price away, is obviously a
more significant trend line than one that has only been
tested twice. As a rough estimate after the third bounce
off the trend line will be when the market will start to
offer trading signals. Similarly, a trend line that has
been intact for the last 9 months is of more importance
than one that has been intact for 9 weeks. There is no
standard as to what duration one needs to wait before
relying on the trend, as some trends will only stay in
motion for short periods of time. To catch these, you have
to use the time in conjunction with the testing of the
line.

Support and Resistance

Support and resistance levels are ones of the most basic
but essential components of technical analysis. Support and
resistance are price areas where an abundance of trading
has taken place and where considerable buying or selling
pressure exists. Underlying support (buying pressure) keeps
a market in an uptrend, and overhead resistance (selling
pressure) keeps a market trending lower. Once a trader can
accurately determine where these levels are, they can be
used very effectively to manage risk, and identify profit
opportunities. By entering trades at price levels at which
a significant move is likely, the probability or reward
over risk is improved. There are support and resistance
levels that are applicable to every traders time frame.
Observing how the market reacts when encountering these
levels is a very good barometer to measure the strength of
the underlying trend. They are also key points for breakout
moves. Large quantities of stop loss orders will usually
accumulate at key support and resistance areas and will
often contribute to a dramatic surge in the market in the
direction of the breakout once these areas have been
penetrated.

Support Levels

A support level is a price area at which there should be an
increase in the demand for that product. A support area is
not difficult to find in a chart. When the market is in an
uptrend, any previously established congestion area is the
uptrend is usually an area of support. To draw a support
line you need to find at least 2 points on the chart that
adhere to this criteria. This then forms a line that can be
extended across the chart.

When a support area is penetrated on the downside, it then
may become the nearest resistance area to a subsequent
advance.

Resistance Levels

A resistance level is a price area characterised by
increased selling pressure or increased supply of a
particular investment product which tends to level off
advances. If the market is in an uptrend, any point at
which new highs are reached or any congestion on the upside
will act as resistance. To draw a resistance line you need
to find at least 2 points on the chart which adhere to this
criterion. This then forms a line which can be extended
across the chart.

When a resistance area is penetrated on the upside, it may
become then the nearest support area to any subsequent
decline.

Role of IT in the Democratization of Commerce

Monday, January 19th, 2009

The trend in globalization will lead to greater integration of large number of producers and consumers in the global economy according to M. K. Pralahad in his book ”Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid’. IT continues to played an important role enabling democratized commerce.

Because of technological advances; information is getting more and more democratized. Today, on a global scale everyone has access to the same information and the potential to translate that information into intelligence. In the past, the profit was made mainly from ‘Information Arbitrage’. If you had access to privileged information, you could take advantage of that information to make a profit. Also, since information traveled slowly, the first movers had a huge advantage when it came to competition. But, with the coming democratization, the velocity of information has dramatically increased and thus decreasing the period when the organization can market product based on differentiation strategy.

The competition will be able to catch up quickly and offer the same product or service, thus pressurizing the company to reduce cost. This intense pressure from competition leads to ‘commoditization of product/service’ which in turn leads to what Economist call ‘Perfect Competition’. Economists have always loved ‘Prefect Competition’ model because from their perspective that it increases economic efficiency which is good for the society at large.

Thus, trend towards commoditization has accelerated and will continue to accelerate due to technological innovation. This accelerated commoditization which is at the heart of Nicholas Carr’s argument in his infamous HBR article ‘IT Doesn’t Matter’ where he makes an argument that in a ‘perfect competition’ model of future, your investment in IT cannot be leveraged for differentiation strategy.

So, can IT be used for differentiation strategy? The answer is unequivocally YES. First of all, there is always a lag in the availability of information. Even though, the technology continues to enable sharp increase in the velocity of information, the information cannot be made available instantaneously. A ‘business idea’ in an organization will not be known instantaneously to the competition. There is that lag time. But with the increased velocity of information, slow decision will be punished. Organizations need to set up agile business processes and streamline decision making ability if they want to take advantage of first mover strategy. IT can play a major role in this effort only if the core competencies of the organizations are identified and automated.

While the technology can be blamed for commoditizing of products faster, same technology can be leveraged to expedite creation of Network Externalities. Let’s take eBay as an example. While it is simple to copy eBay’s business model, it will be extremely difficult to create a value for the sellers because all the buyers have become eBay’s captive audience. So, in this example IT that enabled Network Externalities has created differentiation strategy for eBay.

IT can also enable seller identify the Long Tail aspect of the supply demand curve. Lets say the Company X is involved in selling music video downloads an specializes in ‘Fusion French Rap with Middle Eastern instruments with Hawaiian Hula dance’. Before large scale global IT adoption, it would have been difficult to identify the demand for that kind of specialized music video. Now, with the advances in IT infrastructure, the company X can reach the global customer base and find enough demand to be profitable. With the advent of social media, technology can be used to build community around that specialized product thus adding more ‘value’.

Thus, IT acts as a double edged sword. On one hand it has the power to force rapid commoditization of products. On the other hand IT can be leveraged as mentioned above to differentiate products and services for an organization. Even with democratized information availability, IT can help create first mover’s advantage. It all depends on how organizations use IT.

Raj Sheelvant is currently working as a Project Manager at a Large Multinational Computer Manufacturing Company. He holds MBA from W.P. Carey Business School of Arizona State University at Tempe, Arizona and MS in Engineering Science from University of Toledo, Toledo Ohio. He has a passion of leveraging IT to create and sustain competitive advantage for the Corporations. He strongly believes that IT can be used to ‘expand economic moat’ for the corporations but one need to make sure that the IT projects are always used to enable corporate and business strategy. If they feel OK about what they read, by just presuming the reports look OK. They place a trade and hope for the best. There is a much easier and safer way to do this. More importantly, a much more rewarding way to do this./ppThere are also people who get suckered in to joining some secret club and are convinced to join a brokerage firm and follow what they are blindly told. A Beginners Guide To The Forex Markets

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

The main function of the foreign exchange market is to support the trading of assorted global currencies. Although the majority of trades concern only a small number of currencies, including the U.S. Dollar, Yen, Euro, Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling, Australian Dollar, and Canadian Dollar, many other different types of currency are exchanged on a smaller scale. Over 90% of all exchanges on the forex markets involve the U.S. Dollar.

The forex market is, despite the popular impression, a composite of several contrasting markets, each of which sustains its own rules and regulations, with no one centred market in which all currency trading takes place. Because of the different time zones the major markets, which are located in the U.S., London, and Tokyo, open during different hours. When the New York market opens, and while the European markets are still operating, is when trading is heaviest and nearly two thirds of the trading action happens during this convergence.

An Individual exchange rate for a given currency does not subsist since there is no centred market. Whilst they are normally reasonably close to each other, the bid and ask rates for a currency can deviate among dissimilar geographic markets and market makers because of the over-the-counter (OTC) nature of the markets.

Each currency has an international currency code which is displayed by trio of letters and since the price of a currency must be given in relation to another currency, it is expressed in the form XXX/YYY. The price of Euros in U.S. Dollars is written as EUR/USD, for example. The strongest currency when the pair was created is generally the first in the pair and known as the base currency, and the other currency is called the counter currency. Typically rounded to the nearest ten-thousandth of a unit the actual prices themselves are displayed in decimal form.

Approximately $1.9 trillion changes hands every day in the forex markets and it constitutes the biggest marketplace in the world. With nearly 80% of trades lasting less than a week forex trading is largely a speculative, short-term market. With the many traders encompassing the globe and the very high daily turnover it is an exceedingly liquid market, much more so than equities.

Nearly three quarters of total dealing volume, however, involves the top ten most active traders. Known as the interbank market and made up of international banks, the trading activity that takes place between them supply the market with bid and ask prices that are far tighter than retail clients can anticipate.

Forex futures contracts, that are derivative instruments that are also actively traded was inaugurated in 1972 at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and are responsible for approximately seven percent of the total foreign exchange volume. Another popular hedging strategy that has also taken hold is foreign exchange options. Investors often buy these derivatives, which are contracts to purchase currency at a certain price on a future date, to counterbalance the decline in the price of a currency and any possible losses they might endure.

An additional means traders are capable of mitigating risk is through an exchange, in which both parties agree to switch one currency for another for a set period of time, and will then reverse the transaction after the period runs out.

The foreign exchange market is a fast-paced, international currency exchange that is without competition amongst financial markets.

International companies, prominent banks and financial organisations will ensure its huge popularity continues and its growth is guaranteed into the future.

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

If you intend using automated forex software or any forex trading system understanding these facts will help you get the most from your automated trading…

Here are your facts in no particular order of importance - there all important

1. Fact Most Forex Robots Lose

Never trade one of these robots you will lose.

2. All Automated forex Systems Incur Drawdown

There are lots of people telling you that software can predict market turns in advance - this is rubbish!

Forex is an odds game, nothing more and with any odds game you will lose for periods of weeks and you need the discipline and confidence, to trade through these losses to ht a home run.

3. Free Forex Trading Systems can Win

We have written on one of these and it’s called the 4 Week Rule.

4. Beware of Science!

Complex systems are all the rage but simple systems work best and always have.

In an odds based market like the forex market, you cannot apply complicated theories as they have to many elements to break, so keep it simple to win. Think about it - 50 years ago 95% of traders lost and the ratio is still the same today, so advances in forecasting and complex programs have not helped.

5. Be Realistic

The best automated forex software systems, will give you gains of 30 - 100% compounded annually over the long term, losses would typically be between 25 - 50% and losing periods can last a few weeks, to a few months.

Foreign Currency Investing Strategies

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

I wanted to talk to you about foreign currency investing strategies. This is a global market that provides a very nice opportunity to individuals all over the world. This market has grown to over three trillion dollars a day in trades making it the world’s largest market. This amount of money attracts a lot of get rich quick people. Do not become of of these people because they end up losing all their money because they don’t have the slightest clue on how to invest in this market. I’m going to share with you a little about what I’ve learned that has helped me in this market.

I think the most fundamental skill that people have a hard time implementing is cutting your losses. You’re going to have bad trades, just like the rest of us. The difference between profitable and unprofitable traders is how you deal with it. I used to think cutting my losses was stupid because the currency will typically go back up. It might. It could take a year to go back up. Are you willing to leave that much money in the market for a year, when you could cut your losses, get some of the money back and reinvest it in another profitable trade?

You have a 24hr market here, but it isn’t always profitable at all times. I find the low volume times quite unstable. The reason is that there isn’t enough trading going on for a stable supply and demand. If you look at the high volume time, there is a lot of trading going on and it seems almost chaotic. Even though it is extremely busy, there is an equilibrium of supply and demand, making it very stable.

I’m currently giving a 7 day free forex course. Newbies and experienced are all welcome. If you’re interested in participating, check out the Casual Forex Trader.

Forex Market - A Beginner’s Guide

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Many of you have traded stocks, mutual funds, and maybe even futures before. The Forex market is relatively similar to these markets; however, I would like to cover some key differences that you should be aware of before you begin trading in the Forex market.

Getting Started - Pick a Broker

I am sure many of you have seen hundreds of ads over the internet from Forex brokers trying to earn your business. There so many to chose and you need to get answer to a few key questions before you go with any one broker.

Spreads

The Forex spread, which is similar to the difference between the bid and ask in the equities market, is calculated in pips. Unlike the equity markets where you can place limit orders to buy at bid or the ask or even between, the Forex market allows you to execute at only one price, the ask. It is basically the same as only being able to execute market orders in equities or futures. The “spread” in the Forex market is how the brokers make their money. They do not charge any commission. Therefore, it is imperative that you search for brokers who offer the best spreads.

Reputation of the Firm

Forex market brokers offer massive leverage to their clients and therefore require backing from large banks and other financial institutions. Make sure your Forex broker is registered with the FCM, or the Futures Commission Merchant. Also make sure that the broker is regulated by the CFTC, or the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. This information should be readily available on the brokers website. It is important that you verify this information before opening an account with the broker. Also, search around for feedback regarding some brokers that you are interested in opening an account in. If they have committed any “shady” acts, it will be documented on the internet.

Leverage Options

Leverage in the Forex market is necessary to make any significant profits. This is because currency pairs move in small fractions and require large investment amounts to make any significant profits. Most brokers offer 100 times margin while some may go as high as 250 times. Obviously, the greater the risk, the greater the reward and so goes the same on the opposite side. If you have limited funds for investment into the Forex market, find a reliable broker who offers higher leverage.

Be careful of brokers who have stringent margin rules. Remember, margin is borrowed money and that means that the broker has a vested in interest in how your trading is working out. Therefore, in some cases, I have heard of brokers liquidating positions in your Forex account at their discretion, even if you have enough cash on hand to cover the drawdown. Ask them how they handle this situation. The last thing you want is to be surprised that your brokers rules don’t allow you to trade in the way you want to.

The “Extras”

As we suggested in our Forex Trading introduction, it is a good thing to paper trade the Forex market before you go in with real money. Every market trades a little different and it would be wise to get used to this market first. Many brokers offer free tools that will allow you to open practice trading accounts and trade with live market data. This is a great feature to look for in a broker. Remember, you are implicitly paying your broker quite a bit of money when you place trades through them. Make sure to get your moneys worth! Most of the top brokers in the Forex market offer free real time charts and news and common technical analysis tools. Some trading platforms, such as Tradestation, offer clients the ability to create automated trading strategies to back test their trading systems and also to automate a trading strategy to run on its own without any human intervention.

Trading the Forex Market

As in equity or futures markets, technical and fundamental analysis become the cornerstone of your analysis; however, technical analysis is far more prevalent. There are far more automated trading systems in Forex markets than there are in equities and futures.

From a fundamental point of view; traders will rely heavily on a few key reports: Retail Sales, Durable Goods, Fed interest rate decisions, CPI Index (Consumer Price Index), Non- Farms payrolls, and the PMI (Purchasing Managers Index). Keep an economic calendar handy to stay on top of these news events. They cannot be ignored, even if you are a technical analyst.

From a technical analysis point of view, price and volume analysis is key. Most prevalent in the Forex market is Fibonacci studies, RSI studies, Parabolic SAR, and Elliot Wave to name a few. Many traders will experiment to figure out which trading system fits their personality. This takes time and patience. Remember, paper trade your account until you become proficient at trading the Forex market. They make it very easy for you to practice.

Making Money is Not a Hard Thing to Do!

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

What is this concept, or this thing that people will kill for, die for, sacrifice their lives for and even sacrifice their loved ones for? It amazes me what people will do for MONEY! Even though they may not realize it, most people really are giving up every ounce of joy in their pursuit of money. To most people, making money is a hard thing to do. They have the concept that money is elusive and is never around. When they think of money, harsh and negative feelings arouse. We have all heard of this phrase: Money is the root of all evil, or money doesn’t grow on trees! Most people are raised with these kinds of ideas. What does that do to their ability to make money? It destroys it.

The simple truth about money is that there is plenty of it. More money is being made every single day and it does grow on trees. It is mostly made of paper! If we took all the money in the entire world and divided it up among everybody, we would all be wealthy. There is plenty to go around. So why are so many people broke? That is a whole new topic.

One of the most important things to know about money, is that it’s always in flow. Think of it as a river…and not just a trickling stream but a roaring and raging river that will never run dry. That is the flow of money and all you have to do is step in front of it. There are a million different ways to make a million dollars in this world the key to stepping in front of that river, is in your head.

Think about this, if you have negative thoughts about a person, basically thinking he is the root of all evil, he is never around and every time you think of him, you have harsh and negative feelings towards him. Answer this question: Would you hang around someone who had those feelings towards you? You wouldn’t! You would be everywhere else but there. It’s the same for money. It will come to those who appreciate it, who work for it, who use it in flow and who know of it’s potential for goodness and lifestyle. That is the person who attracts true wealth into their wallets! That is the person who money will hang around with.

If there is one thing I would like you to take away from this article regarding money, it would be: You are a money magnet! Every time you find a quarter on the ground or make a big check, repeat that phrase in your head. You will be amazed at the effect it will have on your bank account!

Two of the most sought after things in this world are TIME and MONEY! Making more money is the easy part. I can teach you how to create wealth, but you can never get more time. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just figure out how to have both? I have…..and can teach you how to do it as well. Stop Settling and Start Living! Visit the3hourworkday.com

Currency Trading Made Easy With Tips

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

I’m going to share with you that make currency trading made easy. There is an undeniable opportunity for new people to enter this market and build an income. The great thing is that you’re not involved in a cut throat business against all other traders. All you’re doing is trying to profit along side each other.

  • Routine, Routine, Routine: The best way to become successful in this business (or any other business) is through routine. What makes you successful is those little things that you do everyday, day after day. That’s what a routine does. Not only do routines allow you to apply the same profitable acts over and over again, it also has a mental affect. Have you ever had a rough day at work and come home, only to find yourself thinking “what should I eat?” Well, in that situation, you probably were less likely to actually make a decent meal. You’re more likely to order pizza or eat something easy fattening. The reason is that thinking uses energy and you don’t always have it. Routine doesn’t require thinking. It is just an action. When you have a routine for trading, you don’t have to waste all your energy on thinking about what needs to be done, you already know and you just do it.
  • No Bargains: There are no bargains or buys. There are cheap prices or on sale. You’re a trader, not a consumer. The cheapest price isn’t profitable. You make decisions on profit and profit only. You don’t buy the cheapest currency, you buy the most profitable. How is profit determined? It is all determined by the sell price. What you sell for is what determines everything. You need to concentrate on figuring out the sell price you will get, than at that point, you can determine a bargain.
  • Software: All workers have tools for their job and this is no different for the people trading currency from home. Software was designed for the analytical, repetitious, mundane tasks you have to do to trade. Save yourself time and have software like Forex Killer do this.
