Here I want to look at a paradox why forex trading is a learned skill yet 95% of traders wipe themselves out. Let’s look at how to get into the elite 5% who enjoy spectacular currency trading success…

Let’s start first with an inspiring story.

Trading legend Richard Dennis believed anyone could learn to trade with the right mindset and education so he conducted a test.

He selected a group of people of all ages both sexes and from all walks of life and set about teaching them to trade in just 14 days. He then set them up with trading accounts and the rest is history - they piled up hundreds of millions in profits and became trading legends.

Dennis had proved his point ANYONE can learn to trade and it’s not a god given skill.

Now trading is a learned skill so why do 95% of traders burn their money?

Well many fall victim to forex trading myths, think forex trading is easy or don’t get the right education but even those with sound systems can sometimes lose.

Now lets make a statement of the obvious forex trading can be learned by anyone but winning is not easy and you wouldn’t expect it to be, with the rewards on offer but it’s achievable and can offer a life changing income.

The important point to keep in mind is no one is going to make you rich.

Forget all the forex trading robots and the “sure fire” systems, success comes from within and this is what most traders don’t understand.

Your on your own and must learn a forex trading system you understand, can have confidence in and can apply with discipline.

This is what Dennis believed when he taught his students - he didn’t just tell them blindly to follow him, he made them learn the system and it was simple ( basically a breakout method ) but he taught them to have confidence in it and follow it with discipline, through long periods of losses to ultimate overall profits.

Most traders don’t take the time to learn the basics and obtain confidence and they never have discipline.

They think discipline is easy and its not.

Anyone who tells you taking loss after loss, as the market makes you look a fool is easy hasn’t traded.

Discipline is a learned skill and you can achieve disciplined trading - if you want to.

So there you have it - a simple system, you have confidence in, applied with discipline can make you a lot of money. Sure you may not get as rich as Dennis’s students (life simply is not like that) but there is a huge difference between something being impossible and being achievable.

When it comes to embracing net technology silver surfers are leading the way, according to recent research from two leading online advertising and measurement companies.

Those aged 55 and over are classified as silver surfers, referring to the prevalence of grey hair amongst the age group and research has identified that it is they who are logging on in ever greater numbers following the widespread roll-out of broadband across Europe. At the end of 2007 almost twice as many silver surfers were using the internet as at the start of the year, with a survey from net Value recording a staggering 90% increase.

So, proof that the older generation has eagerly embraced the internet and for them one particular feature is a godsend: online banking. Indeed, a survey by the European Interactive Advertising Agency (EIAA) found that 53% of silver surfer respondents did their banking online, taking advantage of the convenience of arranging their finances from the comfort of their own home.

The EIAA survey also found that older people spend almost 78% of their weekly average 8.8 hours online for personal reasons. As well as banking, the older generation also spend a lot of time investigating their family tree and shopping. They also spend more cash per head on the internet than any other age group, including surprisingly those in the 18 - 24 range, blowing apart the myth that the net is a youngsters’ phenomenon.

The major UK banks have not been slow to pick up on the rise of the silver surfer and typically offer products designed to appeal to more affluent people, particularly those looking for a monthly income from interest payments. So, in addition to providing day-to-day online banking via a current account most banks now offer online saving accounts, many of which offer a higher rate of interest than would be available through the branch network.

For example a monthly income online savings account can be set up to transfer the monthly interest automatically into the account-holder’s current account. Monthly income accounts are very popular amongst retired people as are other types of accounts that offer significantly higher interest rates in return for tying up the capital for a specified period.

It is these types of accounts that are attracting affluent and net-savvy silver surfers, although they are not exclusively for that age group. But, while the amount of older people on the net continues to grow you can be sure that banks will be rolling out accounts designed to appeal to them in ever greater numbers.

Let’s review a few current day issues.

We have an economic crisis on multiple fronts, a health care crisis, a health insurance crisis, corporate hierarchies are making greater profits while workers wages stagnate, food and fuel prices are skyrocketing, a couple of wars are causing our national debt to explode and yet the vast majority of people (primarily parents with children!) in this country seem fixated on entertainment and sports as their primary priorities. Even media outlets as well as journalistic sites like this promote such priorities by reporting and request articles on entertainment, styles, sports and celeb gossip!

Oh, but even in the face of the ominous issues cited above, these are not misplaced, perverted priorities! Is it any wonder our elected officials ignore us? I would if I were them! To quote a label from Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, it appears as though the general public has a very good chance of being inducted into the “Semi-Epsilon Moron” club!

Amid all these issues, one would expect folks to take positive action, albeit in their own small way, in their own lives, to effect change, despite sacrifices to their image or entertainment venues. But no, quid pro quo reins king, as the people continue on with their most important priorities of entertainment and sports fueled by a media which places a focus on “news” about entertainment, sports and celebrity. As apathetic excuses are aired with, “What can I do about it?”.

Let’s see. Maybe dump the truck or SUV and suffer your image with a hybrid or small sedan or compact? Perhaps dump the 3,000 channel TV subscription for a basic level? And take the money saved from these two “sacrifices” and purchase some basic health care insurance? Oh, God no! Maybe volunteer at or donate to a local food bank? Or how about ignoring and tuning off those grossly high paid sports figures to spend that time with an eco-organization planting trees or managing a green area locally? Now that’s just far too much to ask.

Now let me get this straight. You spend how much of your hard-earned pay each week following and supporting your favorite sports and entertainment figures - the ones who are paid how much more than you? - to add to their wealth and deplete yours?! That’s not “Semi-Epsilon Moron”?!

I could go on but the sneering and snickering will only grow louder. So, just continue on as usual and suffer through all the serious issues. They’ll all “go away” some day…won’t they? Maybe in your own mind as you continue to ignore them and block them out with your entertainment and sports.

As for me, I’m trading in my Kia Spectra for a Hummer and plan to drive no less than 85 MPH on the highway….EVERY time!…Just like everyone else! No more recycling for me, either! Won’t contribute any more time or money to that local eco-club that manages green areas. Going to dump my health insurance so I can go out and buy a few “toys”. I’ll end my contributions to charities and invest in some corporate giant who takes advantage of workers in order to make good profits for shareholders. But I’ve never had much respect for sports figures and little interest in celebs, yet there are other things I’m involved with I can cease and desist from in order to stop making a positive contribution toward resolving the serious issues.

Heck, if the vast, vast majority of people - and they’re the ones with children! - continue to prioritize image, entertainment and sports - and affordability has absolutely nothing to do with it! - and don’t care to act for the betterment of the future of their own kids, outside of their financial futures, why should any of us without kids care what happens economically and environmentally, nationally or even globally? Let the serious issues snowball and escalate! Let the kids suffer in the future more than we are now! Se La Vie!

My book selection this week is Cosmic Economics. You can always pick yourself up out of the dumps by picking up one of the Master Prophet E. Bernard Jordan’s books and — LIKE MAGIC — you will go to the exact page you need. I did that today, not because I was in the dumps, but because his books inspire me to get up and do something.

Cosmic Principle 54–There is nothing in the outer world that cannot be replaced. This principle falls under the 10th Chapter of the book: Lift Up Your Eyes

The Master Prophet rebuilds my faith in this chapter. He reminds me that there is nothing in the outside world, the outside of me, that can harm me. When I find myself the object of unfriendliness, inequality or lack of opportunities, I have to begin to realize that these are EXTERNAL CONDITIONS and are not the truth of me. I must release any thought of harm, lack or poverty because it acts as an entity of power over me if I behold it as a thought.

The Master Prophet further reminds me that when I learn to dismiss these thoughts they cannot defile, deprive or limit me in any way, shape or form. I am then remolding my consciousness of truth.

The clincher in this chapter is when he says, “Once you have learned to dismiss them, you will have agreed with your adversary”. WOW! This scripture now comes to life within me…(Matt 5:25) Agreeing means I would have given up resistance to the person, things, or circumstantial condition that was disturbing me. Any so-called “problem” is not “A” POWER and has “NO” POWER. So that lets me know that as “A” POWER (God in me) anything that has “NO” POWER should not even get my attention.

Jordan tells us that in the natural realm — power only speaks to power (Kings speak to kings, presidents speak to presidents…etc.) in the spiritual realm it is even more so.

I learned to be still, to be quiet, to not try to overcome or rise above situations. But instead, I will now take them into my consciousness of truth, remembering there is NO POWER outside of me and will therefore bring myself into atonement of my divine self. If I try “WIN” within MY own power instead of God’s power, I can count those so-called victories as dung because they were won by operating outside of God.

The Master Prophet is saying here that I can count that as a victory — yes — but, know that the defeated foe I just won over (as an outside job) will be back to battle me again. But by agreeing with my adversary quickly, by taking the situation within my consciousness and resolving “the matter”, it is at that place — in my mind — that there is peace that surpasses all understanding. (Phil 4:7) And profoundly, the Contemporary English version of this scripture states: Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel. —ISN’T THAT AMAZING?

We learn here that:

1 - it is only then (after we dismiss outside thinking) that we ACTUALLY are recognized as BELONGING to Christ and…

2 - no one will be able to understand how you “take what you take” because “the matter” will not rattle you now…and finally

#3 - Peace will control the way you think and feel.

That reminds me of the scripture: When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. (Prov 16:7 - KJV)

Does that mean the way a man can please the Lord is by the way he “THINKS”? And the way you think will have your adversary making peace with you because you agreed with him quickly? And now that Peace is doing all of your thinking, controlling the way you think and feel, you should not have any more so-called problems distracting you? YES-YES-YES.

So therefore, I will no longer fight any battles from outside of myself–they are fruitless and prove nothing. The man of sense puts his trust in visible (or matter) while the man of God puts his trust in those invisible means.

Indy, or Indiana Jones was one of my favorite heroes. Remember the movie about the Holy Grail and the scene where he has to choose between the holly grail and his life? And although it seemed that he lost from his touch the Holy Grail he gained his life! What is more important than survival first? Investments are no different than the eternal search for the holly grail! If someone finds the system that is 100% foolproof then here we found within seconds the next billionaire at the cover of all major economic magazines!

Stop for a moment! Look around you! Is there a chance for someone to discover the one system that beats everything else all the time and make someone extremely rich? And if someone becomes so much rich why would he or she want to share the secret with others? Why? But what someone needs is also passion. It is no fun watching the ticks of stocks movements or forex quotes. But if someone tries to make money out of it there is a cost. And the best way to pay this cost is to be a pioneer. Experiment with what you know or do not know about how the markets work. Put the odds in your favour making your analysis. You do not need to buy each book claiming that it has the one system that will make you rich or subscribe to a service or newsletter paying thousands of dollars per year. Be open-minded. Why pay a lot of money when the real cost could be much less? Is it impressive to cost you a few hundreds or thousands of dollars for their access to the Holy Grail that does not exist? Why to share it with you and split the profits?

On the other hand paying for research and guidance at a reasonable price is definitely not a bad idea if you trust the author and offers extreme good customer service. But once you learn how to invest even with the most basic way why would you need a mentor anymore? Have you ever wondered that if you win and make profit the key to success is consistency? Think of it. If you only could make lets say 5% each month and compound this amount each month then if you can do this for 10 years each month an initial amount of 10,000 will reach the amount of 348 times higher that is 3,5 million dollars. And if that investment is in stocks and add some quality meaning dividends earned then it could be much more. Ok 5% each month each month for 10 years may seem irrational to you but my point is to use it as an example. Change the numbers and inputs. Do your own homework and research.Diversify!Apply very good risk-management criteria. Have a passion for it. And a dream and a goal. My goal is to learn as much as possible about the financial markets and be a good trader. I may not become a top one but at least this is my holy grail : Consistency and Compounding. Keep it simple.
